RESUMO

Optimizing the local electronic structure of electrocatalysts can effectively lower the energy barrier of electrochemical reactions, thus enhancing the electrocatalytic activity. However, the intrinsic contribution of the electronic effect is still experimentally unclear. In this work, the electron injection-incomplete discharge approach to achieve the electron accumulation (EA) degree on the nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH) is proposed, to reveal the intrinsic contribution of EA toward oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Such NiFe LDH with EA effect results in only 262 mV overpotential to reach 50 mA cm-2, which is 51 mV-lower compared with pristine NiFe LDH (313 mV), and reduced Tafel slope of 54.8 mV dec-1 than NiFe LDH (107.5 mV dec-1). Spectroscopy characterizations combined with theoretical calculations confirm that the EA near concomitant Vo can induce a narrower energy gap and lower thermodynamic barrier to enhance OER performance. This study clarifies the mechanism of the EA effect on OER activity, providing a direct electronic structure modulation guideline for effective electrocatalyst design.

RESUMO

Defect-engineered bimetallic oxides exhibit high potential for the electrolysis of small organic molecules. However, the ambiguity in the relationship between the defect density and electrocatalytic performance makes it challenging to control the final products of multi-step multi-electron reactions in such electrocatalytic systems. In this study, controllable kinetics reduction is used to maximize the oxygen vacancy density of a Cu─Co oxide nanosheet (CuCo2O4 NS), which is used to catalyze the glycerol electrooxidation reaction (GOR). The CuCo2O4-x NS with the highest oxygen-vacancy density (CuCo2O4-x-2) oxidizes C3 molecules to C1 molecules with selectivity of almost 100% and a Faradaic efficiency of ≈99%, showing the best oxidation performance among all the modified catalysts. Systems with multiple oxygen vacancies in close proximity to each other synergistically facilitate the cleavage of C─C bonds. Density functional theory calculations confirm the ability of closely spaced oxygen vacancies to facilitate charge transfer between the catalyst and several key glycolic-acid (GCA) intermediates of the GOR process, thereby facilitating the decomposition of C2 intermediates to C1 molecules. This study reveals qualitatively in tuning the density of oxygen vacancies for altering the reaction pathway of GOR by the synergistic effects of spatial proximity of high-density oxygen vacancies.

RESUMO

The number of seed setting (NSS) is an important biological trait that affects tea propagation and yield. In this study, the NSS of an F1 tea population (n = 324) generated via a cross between 'Longjing 43' and 'Baihaozao' was investigated at two locations in two consecutive years. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping of the NSS was performed, and 10 major QTLs were identified. In total, 318 genes were found in these 10 QTLs intervals, and 11 key candidate genes were preliminarily identified. Among them, the MADS-box transcription factor AGAMOUS LIKE 9 (CsAGL9, CSS0037962) located in the most stable QTL (qNSS2) was identified as a key gene affecting the NSS. CsAGL9 overexpression in Arabidopsis promoted early flowering and significantly decreased the length and number of pods and number of seeds per pod. Transcriptome analysis demonstrated that the auxin pathway, a key hormone pathway regulating plant reproduction, was highly affected in the transgenic lines. The auxin pathway was likewise the most prominent in the gene co-expression network study of CsAGL9 in tea plants. In summary, we identified CsAGL9 is essential for seed setting using QTL mapping integrated with RNA-seq, which shed a new light on the mechanism NSS of seed setting in tea plants.

RESUMO

Although surgery is considered the first choice of treatment for patients diagnosed with tracheal cancer, the prediction of overall survival (OS) in patients undergoing surgical intervention is poor. To address this issue, we developed a nomogram that combined a risk classification system to estimate the OS of patients with tracheal cancer who underwent surgical intervention. A total of 525 qualified patients were selected from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database between 1975 and 2018 and were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts (7:3). The parameters of independent prognostic ability were determined using Cox regression analysis, and a nomogram was formed. The predictive ability of the nomogram was tested using the area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration curves. Survival curves were assessed between the different risk classification groups using the Kaplan-Meier method. The results indicated that Age, stage, histology, and tumor size were independent prognostic factors and were included in the predictive model. The calibration plots demonstrated good agreement between the nomogram prediction and actual observation for 24- and 36-month OS. The receiver operating characteristic curves suggested that the predictive model had good discrimination ability, with the area under the curves (training group 0.817, 0.785, and 0.801, respectively) and validation group (0.744, 0.794, and 0.822, respectively). Furthermore, the low-risk group had a better prognosis than the high-risk group in the total, training, and validation cohorts (all P < .001). This study established a novel nomogram system to predict OS and identify independent prognostic factors in patients with tracheal cancer who underwent surgical intervention. This model has the potential to assist doctors in making decisions regarding treatment options.

RESUMO

α,ß-Unsaturated carbonyls are essential structural motifs for nucleophiles of disease-related proteins. Methods for stereoselective functionalizations at the α-position include the Morita-Baylis-Hillman, Negishi, Sonogashira, Stille, and Rauhut-Currier reactions. Described here is a method for the diastereodivergent α-homoallylation of cyclic enones via a sequence of conjugate addition, aldol condensation, and diastereoselective [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. Mechanistic investigations revealed that the [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement proceeds with transfer of chirality. These inspire a photocatalyzed olefin isomerization of the aldol condensation product leading to a highly diastereoselective [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement to furnish the α-homoallylation of cyclic enones. Importantly, this photocatalyzed olefin isomerization/diastereoselective [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement reaction sequence permits a full stereocontrol of the exo-ß-position featuring an allyl group as a synthetic functional handle.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The tobacco gift-giving culture in China poses a significant challenge to public health; however, there is limited research on effectively curbing the tobacco gift-giving culture and its associated tobacco gift consumption. This study examines the potential impact of two tobacco control measures that the Chinese government may consider adopting on cigarette gifting behavior in the future in Chinese society. METHODS: This study employed a randomized survey experiment to examine the effects of cigarette price treatment and pictorial health warning labels (HWLs) on cigarette gifting. The total sample size of this study is 1035. Four groups of participants were presented with representative cigarettes categorized into high-, medium-, and low-priced products, along with different prices (normal and double) or external packaging imagery (normal and pictorial HWL versions). RESULTS: The price of cigarettes for personal consumption forms an L-shaped distribution, and the price of cigarette gifts forms a W-shaped distribution. Increasing cigarette prices reduces smokers' willingness to gift high-priced cigarettes but stimulates the consumption of low-price cigarettes as gifts. Pictorial HWLs do not directly influence smokers' intentions to gift cigarettes, but they enhance the effectiveness of price regulation concerning medium-priced cigarette products. CONCLUSIONS: If the price variance of cigarettes is not reduced, the effect of price regulation will be very limited. Implementing combined interventions of pictorial HWLs and price regulation or modifying the pricing structure of tobacco products may yield stronger control outcomes.

RESUMO

Active sites identification in metal-free carbon materials is crucial for developing practical electrocatalysts, but resolving precise configuration of active site remains a challenge because of the elusive dynamic structural evolution process during reactions. Here, we reveal the dynamic active site identification process of oxygen modified defective graphene. First, the defect density and types of oxygen groups were precisely manipulated on graphene, combined with electrocatalytic performance evaluation, revealing a previously overlooked positive correlation relationship between the defect density and the 2 e- oxygen reduction performance. An electrocatalytic-driven oxygen groups redistribution phenomenon was observed, which narrows the scope of potential configurations of the active site. The dynamic evolution processes are monitored via multiple in-situ technologies and theoretical spectra simulations, resolving the configuration of major active sites (carbonyl on pentagon defect) and key intermediates (*OOH), in-depth understanding the catalytic mechanism and providing a research paradigm for metal-free carbon materials.

RESUMO

Patients with sepsis face high mortality rates and a bleak prognosis, prompting the need for advanced therapeutic interventions. A male patient diagnosed with moderately low-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma received diverse treatments, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy to inhibit angiogenesis. Subsequently, he developed sepsis after comprehensive treatment, and conventional antibiotic combinations proved ineffective in combating the infection. As an experimental approach, allogeneic natural killer (NK) cell infusion was administered. Following the NK cell infusion, the patient regained consciousness, and laboratory analyses showed reduced infection-related markers, suppressed serum inflammatory cytokines, and elevated anti-tumor cytokines. However, the therapeutic effect only lasted 2-3 days. In vitro investigations demonstrated that the allogeneic NK cell product reduced interleukin-6 levels in the patient's serum. Moreover, subsequent co-cultivation of the NK cell product with the patient's serum resulted in a decrease in the proportion of cytotoxic subpopulations of NK cells and a downregulation of the expression of NK-mediated killing molecules. In conclusion, adoptive transfusion of allogeneic NK cells may improve sepsis symptoms in patients with tumor-related sepsis. In vitro co-culture tests hold promise in providing predictive biomarkers for treatment effectiveness.

RESUMO

Conducting atomic force microscopy has been performed for a fundamental understanding of the mechanism responsible for the lower power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) solar cells than that of CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) solar cells. The difference in efficiency is partly attributed to the distinctly different band alignment between the grain boundaries (GBs) and grain interior (GI) for the two materials. While CIGS shows type-II band alignment, CZTS was discovered to demonstrate type-I band alignment with the conduction band shifting downward while the valence band shifting upward at the GBs. The type-I band alignment in CZTS leads to both electron and hole trapping, enhancing their recombination, and lowers the PEC. Band engineering was realized by moderate oxidative annealing of CZTS. The preferential GB oxidation changes the band alignment into inverse type-I (i.e., the conduction band upward bending and valence band downward bending at GBs). The blocking of carrier recombination at GBs leads to 30% enhancement in PCE. Our work reveals the critical role that band alignment between the grain boundary and interior plays in polycrystalline thin film solar cells and suggests band alignment engineering as a practical approach to enhance PCE. Furthermore, conducting AFM has been shown to be a powerful tool for qualitative and semiquantitative characterization of band alignment in polycrystalline films.

RESUMO

Introduction: Resveratrol (RES) is a polyphenol organic compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to determine whether and how RES can alleviate liver injury in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced gibel carp. Methods: Gibel carp were fed a diet with or without RES and were cultured for 8 weeks, followed by LPS injection. Results and discussion: The results suggested that RES attenuated the resulting oxidative stress and inflammation by activating the Nrf2/Keap1 pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB pathway, as confirmed by changes in oxidative stress, inflammation-related gene expression, and antioxidant enzyme activity. Furthermore, RES cleared damaged mitochondria and enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis to mitigate reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation by upregulating the SIRT1/PGC-1α and PINK1/Parkin pathways and reducing p62 expression. Overall, RES alleviated LPS-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in gibel carp through mitochondria-related mechanisms.

RESUMO

This study investigated the potential role of curcumin (CUR) in preventing oxidative stress and ferroptosis induced by ammonia exposure in gibel carp. Experimental fish (initial weight: 11.22 ± 0.10 g, n = 150) were fed diets supplemented with or without 0.5% CUR for 56 days, followed by a 24 h ammonia (32.5 mg/L) exposure. Liver damages (aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), adenosine deaminase (ADA), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)) and oxidative stress enzyme activities (reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA); and the content of antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx)) were induced by ammonia stress. The antioxidant capacity was decreased, as indicated by inhibited gene expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (ho-1), catalase (cat), and sod. Ferroptosis was induced by ammonia stress, as suggested by upregulated mRNA levels of nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (ncoa4), transferrin receptor 1 (tfr1), and iron-responsive element-binding protein 2 (ireb2), and downregulated expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (gpx4), ferroportin (fpn), and ferritin heavy chain 1 (fth1). In addition, both mRNA and protein levels of ferroptosis markers acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) were upregulated, while cystine/glutamate antiporter (SLC7A11) was downregulated. However, liver injury and ferroptosis in fish induced by ammonia could be attenuated by CUR. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that CUR ameliorates oxidative stress and attenuates ammonia stress-induced ferroptosis. This study provides a new perspective on potential preventive strategies against ammonia stress in gibel carp by dietary CUR.

RESUMO

As coal mines continue deep mining, the frequency of coal and rock dynamic disasters has also gradually increased. In this paper, dynamic tensile strength deformation, energy evolution, and crack development under an impact test were studied on Brazilian coal samples, using a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test device. A high-speed camera was adopted to capture the failure process of the coal specimens. The research results demonstrate that when the impact velocity is greater than 4.75 m/s, the dynamic tensile strength of the vertical bedding direction is higher than that of the parallel bedding direction of the coal samples. With the increase in the impact velocity, the dynamic strain and ultimate strain rate of two types of coal samples are increased, and the average value of the first and second dynamic deformation moduli of coal samples shows decreasing characteristics. As the incident energy increases, the sum of reflected and transmitted energy increases, and the absorbed energy also increases in the two types of coal samples. The two types of Brazilian disc coal samples mainly showed tensile and shear failure characteristics. The dynamic tensile deformation characteristics of the two types of coal specimens are less affected by the impact angles. However, the crack propagation of coal samples was mainly influenced by the impact angles. The test results can be used for the prediction of coal and rock outburst in deep underground coal excavation.

RESUMO

Ammonia is recognized as an environmental stressor for fish. As resveratrol (RES) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, we hypothesized that RES could attenuate the response to ammonia exposure in gibel carp. Therefore, gibel carp were fed a diet containing RES for eight weeks, followed by acute ammonia stimulation. Stress induced by acute ammonia exposure could be ameliorated by RES, manifested by down-regulated plasma glucose, and up-regulated C3 and IgM levels. Furthermore, decreased AST and LDH; enhanced T-AOC, SOD, and GPx in the liver; and reduced damage to gill and liver tissues indicated that RES attenuated oxidative and tissue damage induced by ammonia exposure. Moreover, RES activated the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and up-regulated the expression of several antioxidant genes. RES enhanced anti-inflammatory activity as reflected by activation of the NF-κB pathway, down-regulated the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (nfκb, tnf-α, and il-1ß), and up-regulated the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines (il-4 and il-10). In terms of mitochondrial function, RES up-regulated protein levels of p-AMPK, SIRT1, and PGC-1α; inhibited mitochondrial fission; promoted mitochondrial fusion and biogenesis-related gene expression. Overall, the results suggest that RES mediated the Nrf2/HO-1, NF-κB, and AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α pathways to attenuate oxidative stress, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction induced by ammonia in gibel carp.

RESUMO

The large-scale synthesis of high-quality boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) has attracted considerable interests due to their applications in nanocomposites, thermal management, and so on. Despite decades of development, efficient preparation of high-quality BNNTs, which relies on the effective design of precursors and catalysts and deep insights into the catalytic mechanisms, is still urgently needed. Here, a self-catalytic process is designed to grow high-quality BNNTs using ternary W-B-Li compounds. W-B-Li compounds provide boron source and catalyst for BNNTs growth. High-quality BNNTs are successfully obtained via this approach. Density functional theory-based molecular dynamics (DFT-MD) simulations demonstrate that the Li intercalation into the lattice of W2 B5 promotes the formation of W-B-Li liquid and facilitates the compound evaporation for efficient BNNTs growth. This work demonstrates a high-efficient self-catalytic growth of high-quality BNNTs via ternary W-B-Li compounds, providing a new understanding of high-quality BNNTs growth.

RESUMO

This paper investigated the effect of silicon phase morphology and size on microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of the AlSi10Mg alloys fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM). Using different heat treatment conditions for SLM-fabricated alloys, the microstructure characteristics and mechanical properties are analyzed. The corrosion behavior analysis is also performed using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical and immersion tests. Results show that the AlSi10Mg alloy directly fabricated by SLM has a continuous eutectic silicon network, which has a small driving force for corrosion and facilitates the deposition of corrosion products and generates a dense protective film. On the contrary, the formation of large isolated and uniformly distributed silicon particles produces a greater corrosion driving force after heat treatment, which makes most of the corrosion products transfer to the solution. The corrosion resistance of AlSi10Mg alloy directly fabricated by SLM is better than that of the alloys with heat treatment. Moreover, the heat treatment reduces the hardness of AlSi10Mg alloys due to the decrease in the solid solution strengthening effect.

RESUMO

The applications of fiber-optic acoustic sensors are expanded to the high-temperature field, but it still faces challenges to realize the wide-band and high-sensitivity acoustic signal detection in high-temperature environments. Here, we propose a miniature membrane-free fiber-optic acoustic sensor based on a rigid Fabry-Pérot (F-P) cavity and construct an acoustic signal detection system. The system can achieve high-sensitivity acoustic detection while maintaining a wide frequency band in temperatures ranging from 20 °C to 200 °C. The prepared F-P cavity based on optical contact technology is the sensitive unit of the sensor, and has a high-quality factor of 8.8×105. Specifically, with the increasing of temperature, the sensitivity gradually increases, and the frequency response range does not change. A maximum sensitivity of 491.2 mV/Pa and a high signal-to-noise ratio of 60.9 dB are achieved at 200 °C. The sensor has an excellent acoustic signal response in the frequency range of 10 Hz-50 kHz with a flatness of ±2 dB. This study is important for the application of the fiber-optic acoustic sensor in high-temperature environments.

RESUMO

Plant acyl-CoA dominated acyltransferases (named BAHD) comprise a large appointed protein superfamily and play varied roles in plant secondary metabolism like synthesis of modified anthocyanins, flavonoids, volatile esters, etc. Tea (Camellia sinensis) is an important non-alcoholic medicinal and fragrancy plant synthesizing different secondary metabolites, including flavonoids. In the tea (C.A sinensis) cultivar Longjing 43 (LJ43), eight samples were performed into three groups for transcriptome analysis under three biological replications. Among the BAHD acyltransferase genes in tea cultivars, the expression of TEA031065 was highest in buds and young leaves following the RNA sequencing data, which was coincident with the tissue rich in catechins and other flavonoids. We then transformed this gene into wild-type Arabidopsis as an over-expression (OX) line 1 and line 2 in ½ MS media to verify its function. In the wild types (WT), the primary root length, number of secondary roots, and total root weight were significantly higher at 24%, 15%, and 53.92%, respectively, compared to the transgenic lines (OX1 and OX2). By contrast, the leaves displayed larger rosettes (21.58%), with higher total leaf weight (32.64%) in the transgenic lines than in the wild type (WT). This result is consistent with DCR mutant At5g23940 gene in Arabidopsis thaliana. Here, anthocyanin content in transgenic lines was also increased (21.65%) as compared to WT. According to the RNA sequencing data, a total of 22 growth regulatory genes and 31 structural genes with TFs (transcription factors) that are correlative with plant growth and anthocyanin accumulation were identified to be differentially expressed in the transgenic lines. It was found that some key genes involved in IAA (Auxin) and GA (Gibberellin) biosynthesis were downregulated in the transgenic lines, which might be correlated with the phenotype changes in roots. Moreover, the upregulation of plant growth regulation genes, such as UGT73C4 (zeatin), ARR15, GH3.5, ETR2, ERS2, APH4, and SAG113 might be responsible for massive leaf growth. In addition, transgenic lines shown high anthocyanin accumulation due to the upregulation of the (1) 3AT1 and (3) GSTF, particularly, GSTF12 genes in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway. However, the TFs such as, CCoAMT, bHLH, WRKY, CYP, and other MYBs were also significantly upregulated in transgenic lines, which increased the content of anthocyanins in A. thaliana seedlings. In conclusion, a BAHD acyltransferase (TEA031065) was identified, which might play a vital role in tea growth and secondary metabolites regulation. This study increases our knowledge concerning the combined functionality of the tea BAHD acyltransferase gene (TEA031065).

RESUMO

We propose an efficient strategy based on the electrospinning technique combined with multi-dimensional fillers to fabricate composites with well-established thermal pathways. A bridge-type structure is constructed in the composite fibers by integrating 1D boron nitride nanofibers and 2D boron nitride nanosheets, which can accelerate the formation of a valid thermal network, thereby the BNNS/BNNF/polyacrylonitrile (bsf) composites perform better than the BNNS/polyacrylonitrile (bs) composites. This strategy can be extended to the preparation of other electrospun 1D/2D nanofiller/polymer composite fiber films.

RESUMO

Many academics and experts focus on portfolio optimization and risk budgeting as a topic of study. Streamlining a portfolio using machine learning methods and elements is examined, as well as a strategy for portfolio expansion that relies on the decay of a portfolio's risk into risk factor commitments. There is a more vulnerable relationship between commonly used trademarked portfolios and neural organizations based on variables than famous dimensionality decrease strategies, as we have found. Machine learning methods also generate covariance and portfolio weight structures that are more difficult to assess. The least change portfolios outperform simpler benchmarks in minimizing risk. During periods of high instability, risk-adjusted returns are present, and these effects are amplified for investors with greater sensitivity to chance changes in returns R.

RESUMO

Atractylodes macrocephala polysaccharide (AMP) can enhance antioxidant defense and anti-inflammation, as the tolerance levels of AMP in aquaculture is important for additive utilization. However, the tolerance dose of AMP is unknown. We assess the tolerance levels of AMP in juvenile largemouth bass (3.38 ± 0.11 g) by feeding them a 0, 400, 4000, or 8000 mg/kg AMP supplemented diet for 10 weeks. The 400 mg/kg AMP dose increased growth performance. The Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway was activated, as indicated by Keap1 and Nrf2 protein levels in the liver. Enhanced activity of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, GPx), together with increased mRNA levels of antioxidant genes (sod, gpx) and decreased accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and MDA, was found in the liver, implying the antioxidant effect of AMP. Nutrient absorption was enhanced by AMP, as reflected by the increased length of intestinal villi and microvilli. However, 4000 and 8000 mg/kg AMP induced oxidant stress, as indicated by increased plasma ALT and AST content and decreased mRNA levels of antioxidant genes (sod, gpx) in the liver and intestinal tissues. Inflammatory reactions were also induced by high doses of AMP, as reflected by enhanced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (tnfα, nfκb) in the liver, intestinal, and kidney tissues and inhibited levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines (tgfß, iκb). Histological analysis reveals inflammatory cell infiltration and tissue damage. Thus, the safe tolerance margin of AMP supplement for largemouth bass was 400-4000 mg/kg.
